Construction at Gale's : In September of 2008, we started the addition to Gale's Equine Facility. In 20 years, I've accumulated so many saddles, tack and equipment needed for the horses, that I simply had no more room to store the things. I was busting at the seams. So, we moved ahead with the necessary actions to do an addition. The addition includes a crawl space for storage, and large tack room which will also serve as an education room for my 4H club and students. I'm so very excited about this. The second floor will all be storage for extra tack, equipment and records for the barn. The only "for Gale" part of the project is a real nice bathroom. I've spent 20 years in a tiny bathroom, and with absolutely no storage. So, this part of the project is my treat to John and me. The project also includes the removal of the last of the old aluminum roof (most of which failed in that famous snow storm in 1994). This area of the existing barn had to be reinforced, with electrical and plumbing items brought up "to code". So here are photos of the progress of our project. Enjoy.

Construction continues into December. with the details work. Guess what...we're going to put in a small kitchen - cabinets, a real sink, and a real stove. LOOK OUT! Painting is well underway with the great help of my Mom and Dad. Primer paint is on the walls, and the ceilings have been painted white....;.now begins the wall paint. The Flooring guys are getting geared up. Lights are getting powered up. The heating systems are getting installed this week (of December 8th) so I'm looking forward to this. I've had some chilly rooms without heat on these cold nights.

Stay tuned for more photos as we start putting more things in place and together. 12/8/08

12/9/08 - WOW....we got some colored paint on the walls (THANKS MOM & DAD). The "Warm Oats" got put on the main room. It's an interesting blend of warm golden tan. Then the bathroom got it's upper level coat of "Peach Fuzz". :) Lots of work got done on the heating plumbing, but we ran into a snag...... my old boiler decided to spring a leak in its innards. Water is trickling out from underneath it. Not good. So, a new boiler was delivered today and being assembled for installation tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Thursday....December 11th....5AM, I shut the old leaky boiler down to allow it to start cooling off before the guys got here to start replacing the poor old thing. It was an all day project, plagued with my famous "do-over" curse. But at 5:30, the new boiler, with its beautiful pipe organ piping, fired up and started making good hot water.

Mom and Dad painted the bedroom today. The color is adorable..... really... the name of the paint color is "Adorable". Enjoy the new photos....page 8. Stay tuned..........

December 19th - we're experiencing a significant snow fall... it's really coming down today. However, the installers from Jay Carpet One arrived today to start laying down the new vinyl flooring. It's a "wood grain" linoleum....and it looks very nice. I also have the new kitchen cabinets in place, with the new microwave installed. Very nice. :)

January 3rd, 2009 HAPPY NEW YEAR.... well... the holiday season, and a failed computer, made it a bit difficult to get caught up with photos and to write an update of our progress. But, a lot has happened. The new bathroom gets closer to being completed, enough so, that I can now use it, and John tore down the old closet and the old bathtub area. It sure looks funny coming in from the barn and to see the area so "open".

The new kitchen is nearly done. The new counters are in, with the new sink, and I've put away all my dishes and food. It's so nice to have the space to be organized. Tonight, John and I bought a new kitchen stove..... ME WITH A STOVE. It's been over 20 years since I've had a stove. We got a nice new Kenmore, off the floor, from Sears tonight. We'll install it on Monday night, after the flooring people put the new floor into the old apartment area (main rooms).

I've spent the last two days going through the filing cabinets in my old bedroom, which will become the future "closet" room. I've gone through over 20 years of history, notes, memorabilita, photos, etc., which has flooded my brain with memories - good and bad. It's been an emotional couple of days. So, that's it for tonight's report. Enjoy the photos on page 8, 9 and 10, which pretty much catches things up to tonight. Until next time. ~Gale

January 5th - Holy Cow....did we make dust today. The old carpet was pulled up, and concrete work (grinding, chipping, filling, patching) was done to prepare the old floor for the new vinyl. What a mess. Tonight.... the cats and Misty are locked up in my old bedroom, and they are NOT happy. They are used to have the "run" of the place. Hopefully, tomorrow, the new vinyl will be in place, and things will be starting to get back to normal.
I think I just chewed on some dust. It's everywhere. ~g
