Gale's Day Camp 2009 : 2009 Day Camp at Gale's for the week of July 6th through the 10th. We enjoyed 10 lovely young ladies,ages 4 through 14. The average age was 9 years old. The theme of the camp was "Dressage as the Basis for All RIding", and we worked on perfecting dressage tests for the Friday Ridecital, a performance given to the family and friends of our campers. We included instructional classroom activities about dressage and other horse events. We also learned about the parts of the saddle and bridle and the basic exterior anatomy of the horse. The girls became more familiar with grooming and tacking up horses for riding, several being able to do so completely on their own by the end of camp week. The craft project was to use jewels and fabric paints to decorate halters for their horses. Each halter was as individual as the young lady that decorated it. The Ridecital was a lovely success with the group performing a very nice drill team demonstration and then each girl riding a USDF Introductory Dressage Test. I performed a higher level dressage demonstration with Beike and the group concluded with presenting their halters to the audience and stating a short explanation of what they learned during camp week. I'd say that the week was a great success and we look forward to next year's camp week. Perhaps we'll have enough interest to host more than one week next year! Morgan Equine Veterinarian Clinic - 2-7-09 : Today, Carousel 4H Club was one of several groups that attended the Equine Experience at Morgan Equine Veterinarian and Farrier Hospital. http://www.morganequine.com/education.htm is a link to their website. We had great learning opportunities today in the four sessions presented to us...actually five sessions, if you count the bandaging lab. Dr. Morgan divided the large group into age groups, and sent us off to our areas. The adults were our own group. The group started out with a hands-on "puzzle" (Excellent visual!)of the major ligaments of the back of a horse's front leg. Then we had an introduction to ultrasound technology for limb analysis. A very nice Haflinger pony was the demo horse that stood well for us. We learned that we should all throw out our leg boots if they make our horses's legs sweat up underneath them (I already use a leather and fleece boot on Beike). Our group then went to the anatomy lab and discussed some various horse and cow skeletin parts. We had a good discussion on founder (laminitis). After a short break, our group then went to the parasite and dental room. This was a refresher from some of the instructional activities held at Morgan Equine in past years. It was good to hear the updates on deworming products. After lunch, we all attended our last session (all the groups rotated to the various rooms and lectures). We attended a neat powerpoint presentation on what can be seen with Radiographs (X-rays) which included a good leg anatomy lesson, and some interesting problems with horse's legs - splints, coffin bone rotations, etc. The day ended with Dr. Morgan doing a thank you presentation to her eventing groom "Alice" which was very nice. A good groom such as Alice deserves recognition as without them, an eventer, well..... wouldn't do such a good job eventing. It's a LOT of work. THANK YOU DR. MORGAN for such as great event. Animal Planet Sporthorse Cup : November 2, 2008, Syracuse, NY.... the Animal Planet Sporthorse Cup was held as part of the Syracuse Invitational and The National Horse Show. Pam and I attended the event.....did some fun shopping, picked up some handouts for our 4H Club, and learned a bit more about my camera. :) So enjoy the BIG JUMP photos. Beezie Madden won the competition, with the final round being ridden on Judgement, the Dutch Warmblood Stallion owned by Iron Spring Farm.

FHANA World Friesian Horse Show : Greetings Friesian Fans..... Here are photos that I was able to take from the cheap seats at the FHANA World Show in Springfield Ohio. Half the photos are from Thursday night, and the other half are of the Friday events. I think I only took one photo of the dressage riders, as I did video taping of their rides. Unfortunatly, the schedule was so far off (for example...really wanted to watch Pas De Deux...and the times got changed so often that we spectators didn't know what was going on.) But, I got some fun photos of the various abilities of the wonderful Friesian horse. Stallions Nanning, Mintse and Fridse were presented for our delight.
