TRIP TO HOLLAND Galleries

8. My Trip To Holland - the last days : Sunday, the 13th had to be a day of rest. I was exhausted. Jan rode Jaike and I took some photos. Miek went shopping and we had a very nice dinner. Monday, the 14th, we went to the village of Alkmaar - a very old village in Holland with small streets and fun shops. Miek also took me to meet her mother, and then her sister and her husband. We also visited the barn from which Karolien came from. This was pretty cool as it was, still, the traditional style of "Dutch farmhouse". I enjoyed seeing the large wooden columns and the inside of the thatched roof. Tuesday, it was an early rise to then drive to the Schiphol airport to begin the long journey and process to return home. Going through Philadelphia was very tedious. I got sniffed, pawed, examined and microscoped (my driver's license). Then I had the seven hour wait for the flight to Elmira, finished off with my luggage NOT showing up in Elmira. But I got home safe and sound, to a beautiful bouquet of roses. Very nice.

7. My Trip to Holland - January 12th : Saturday, the 12th - the last day of the Stallion Inspection. Today, the candidates for approval were presented. Their owners were asked to join their young stallions in the arena. They were given flowers and recognition. The young candidates now go to their performance training and testing. The remainder of the day was the competition of the previously approved stallions, by age group. Photos of Fabe 348 start with image # 48 (of 233). Fabe is Tim's sire, so I took quite a few photos of him. I can see that Tim has inherited many of Fabe's qualities.

The winners of the groups were then all brought together for the final championship. The crowd cheered loudly for the favorites - old and new, and the final winner was Haitse. He is the new Champion Stallion.

6. My Trip To Holland - Friday, January 11th : Friday events at the Stallion Inspection included the Third Round of the inspection of the young stallion candiates for approval. They were released inside of a fenced area and allowed to free canter. There was no chasing. The horse had to "show his stuff" on his own. They wanted to see regular, free flowing canter during this stage, among other things. The afternoon then included the stallion auction. Very exciting to watch the bidding go up on these fine young stallions. The evening events included magnificant demonstrations of all the ways that Friesians are asked to perform. Good show!
